Replace the module, not the surge protector
Surge protectors lose effectiveness over time. That's why Metra designed their Big Dog PR-R13PI and the PR-V7PI power distribution units with replaceable surge modules. When the included modules have exhausted their lifespan, you can replace them and keep the units working in the field. This 2040-joule protection module works with both of the power distribution units mentioned above.
You can check the LED status light on each module and track the "surge mileage" with Metra's MAVbase web and mobile app. When the surge module is expended simply swap in a new one.
